Agenda

  • Quantum Computing: What could it do and how do we prepare?
    3:00pm - 3:45 pm

Speaker: Robert Williams, National Security Agency Abstract: There is a lot of excitement about quantum computing with every step towards a working quantum computer being proudly publicized. In this talk, we will discuss how a quantum computer will differ from classical computers from a mathematical/computer-science perspective and how these differences lead to both unintuitive possibilities and unexpected limitations. We will then turn our attention to what it really means for the world of cryptography- how a working quantum computer could break some public key algorithms and a brief look at the math behind the secure algorithms that replace them.
