Protecting our critical infrastructure

The energy sector has become a major target of cyberattack in recent days. As a critical infrastructure that sustains other services, ensuring the security of the power system is a national priority and a main focus of the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative, especially in the southwest region.

CCI Southwest Virginia supports the creation of scalable, distributed, and cost-effective technologies for the power system that enable situational awareness and cybersecurity of distributed energy resources.

Talent development & innovation

All CCI power grid programs involve undergraduate and graduate students, creating a cohort of talent uniquely positioned to meet critical demand in power and communications industries or cybersecurity workforce.
